Pearl River Elementary Safe Room

FEMA-approved 5,600 SF safe room at Pearl River Elementary School with capacity for approximately 900 people.
The contract with MBCI was for construction of a FEMA-approved 5,600 square foot safe room capable of withstanding up to 250 mph winds. The masonry building with low-slope roof is a lightly loaded one-story structure on a grade-level slab, approximately 70 by 85 feet.
Built on the north side of Pearl River Elementary School at 470 Industrial Road, the safe room is connected by corridor and serves school attendees and nearby community members. IKBI self-performed approximately 15% of the work including acoustic ceilings, bathroom partitions, doors and hardware, sidewalk replacement, and structural framing for the metal roof.
